Rotonda del Dimoni

The iron figure with the stone head is by local blacksmith Miquel Capó. This sculpture is set on a circular base inscribed with the Tau of Sant Antoni, a symbol with great significance in the town’s tradition.

The figure holds a pitchfork, a long-handled tool historically used to lift and throw light materials such as straw or leaves. During the festivities, the demons use this pitchfork to play pranks on children, adding a touch of mischief and fun to the celebrations.

The sculpture was inaugurated in 2015 during the Sant Antoni festivities, an event eagerly awaited and beloved by the inhabitants of Sa Pobla. This inauguration was not only a significant addition to the town’s public space but also a tribute to the typical celebrations and the essential role that demon figures play in these festivities.

The Sant Antoni festivities are known for their vitality and energy, with demons dancing around bonfires and interacting with the community, and Miquel Capó’s sculpture perfectly represents this spirit. The significance of the sculpture goes beyond its physical presence.

The same figure in a smaller size is used by the Sa Pobla Town Council as a symbolic gift for schoolchildren or visitors to the town. This practice has turned the figure into a symbol of welcome and recognition.
