Route 5
Rotonda Puente de Son CarbonellThe Son Carbonell bridge, which historically served as the main link between the towns of Sa Pobla and Muro, stood out for its crossing over the Sant Miquel torrent. This stone construction of great patrimonial and historical value underwent reinforcement works in 2007.
During these works, the decision was made to preserve the bridge, and it was decided to move it piece by piece to the roundabout on the Sa Pobla ring road. The process of relocating and subsequently reconstructing the Son Carbonell bridge was meticulously planned and executed.
This project received the approval and support of the Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mallorca (ARCA), an entity dedicated to preserving the island’s historical and cultural heritage. ARCA’s approval and collaboration were essential to legitimize and facilitate the process, ensuring that the original techniques and materials were respected during the reconstruction.
The bridge’s new location on the roundabout of the Sa Pobla ring road not only served to preserve the infrastructure but also allows residents and visitors to appreciate traditional architecture and reflect on the importance of preserving historical elements that define the local identity.
