Crestatx

Historians believe that the beginning of the town was in Crestatx and its surroundings. In fact, important skeletal remains from the Islamic period have been found, and it is believed that individuals lived in the area between the late 8th and early 9th centuries.

The hermitage, located three kilometers from the town on the road that connects Sa Pobla with Pollença, is small in size and was built in the 13th century. Although the religious building was renovated in 1820, it still retains original elements.

It is accessed through gardens, and inside are important works, including the image of Santa Margalida by Gabriel Móger, dating from the 16th century, and the Roser altarpiece from 1570, which is the oldest image preserved in Sa Pobla. Around the hermitage, the urbanizations of Crestatx, s’Obac, and Son Toni have been built, where some residents of Sa Pobla live.

Every Tuesday after Easter, this hermitage hosts the Crestatx Festival. It is a celebration during which thousands of locals and people from other parts of Mallorca gather on the esplanade of the hermitage and celebrate the pancaritat.

At noon, the neighbors eat the typical Pobler rice, cooked with the local bombeta rice variety.
