Casa bressol de les Germanes FranciscanesHome of the Franciscan Sisters, Daughters of Mercy. They settled in sa Pobla in 1872 in the convent on Carrer Lluc. In April 1927, this house was blessed.
It was mistakenly said that it was the house of Captain Pere Antoni Ferragut (1631-1702). This illustrious 'pobler's' house was located on the corner of Sant Jaume-Escuela-Comercio, formerly 'Quarter Vell' (old barracks). The house has a chapel with a barrel vault, now blocked off. Local Authors.
History and literature: The 'bressol' (cradle) house in sa Pobla was founded by five Franciscan TOR nuns. In January 1917, they opened a new school on Carrer des Molí, heading towards the neighboring town of Muro, next to Can Gelabert. On that day, all the girls from the town who were going to learn Christian doctrine attended the inauguration.
At that time, there were 20 nuns serving the town, working day and night to care for the sick and children. The flu soon arrived, and the 'pobler' nuns would play a crucial role in helping the dying and the infected. The Franciscan nuns in sa Pobla.
