Plaça des MercatOn January 3, 1892, Mayor Antoni Palou i Pons inaugurated this square, initially and for almost a century, intended for the buying and selling of livestock used in agricultural work. In the 1950s, the phytosanitary inspection of potatoes destined for export, mainly to the English market, began to take place here. Currently, it has been remodeled and is used for recreation and the celebration of Sunday markets and fairs.
There is a sculpture by Antoni Caimari called 'Bestia' donated to the town of sa Pobla in 1996. Local Authors. History and literature: During the civil war, prisoners who formed the forced labor battalions were housed in open premises or warehouses. In the case of sa Pobla in 1938, 'Can Garroví' was adapted in the Plaça Mercat.
This battalion was to build the train works between sa Pobla and Alcúdia. That space was not habitable, the latrines were a hole in the middle of the market. The Plaça des Mercat was surrounded by wire and heavily guarded by soldiers.
