La CaixaConstruction began on July 29, 1946.
In 1953, the ground floor, which was intended as a cultural center, was adapted to incorporate the first library in sa Pobla.
Maria Sureda was its first librarian.
In 1963, La Caixa absorbed the Montepío Un Sol Cor, founded in 1906 by Vicar Joan Parera.
