Can Socies

Building with a ground floor and two stories, noted for its decorative elements on doors and windows. The building is topped by a frieze adorned with floral motifs. The house belonged to Miquel Socias i Caimari (1841-1904), a lawyer and promoter – among other things – of the arrival of the train in sa Pobla in 1878.

He held positions in the City Council of Ciutat, was sub-governor of Menorca. In January 1879, he was appointed provincial deputy and joined the Liberal Party of Sagasta – Congress of Deputies (1886-1890) – civil governor of Barcelona, governor of the Island of Pangasinan, in the Philippines. He was named an illustrious son of sa Pobla.

The link between the Socies family and the Talapi estate still endures. In the 1980s, the UE Poblense had its headquarters and an open bar here. Local authors.
